Stefan is a partner in the Berlin office and heads the Media Group whose team was voted "Best Media Law Firm" from the leading legal publishing house JUVE in 2010. As an expert in the film industry Stefan has advised national and international industry players for more than 20 years on commercial and corporate law issues. His main areas of expertise include production, distribution, financing (including subsidies), restructuring, insolvency and securitisation issues within the media and entertainment sector.
Stefan is a member of the Corporate Responsibility team in Germany.
Stefan is well known as an expert within the media and entertainment industries, in particular in the film and television sector. He has extensive experience in advising major players and represents national and international producers, studios and distributors as well as banks, financiers, insurance companies, agencies, film boards, ministries and actors. His practice includes complex national and cross-border transactions, including corporate, antitrust and regulatory aspects.
Stefan studied law in Bayreuth and Munich and obtained his PhD in film copyright law from the Max Planck Institute in Munich. Before joining Olswang, Stefan was a partner and group head of the Intellectual Property team at Linklaters for more than 15 years. He is author of the film copyright law section of a handbook on copyright law and of numerous publications in particular on film and copyright topics and he is a frequent speaker and moderator at media industry events. The leading legal publishing house JUVE recommends Stefan repeatedly as a "highly regarded advisor" rendering "pragmatic advice on the highest level".
