As well as leading our Construction Team, Nick concentrates on building and civil engineering disputes. He regularly advises institutional investors, developers and contractors. He also advises on drafting and negotiating construction documents. Nick regularly handles disputes concerning defects, final accounts and variations and professional negligence claims against construction professionals. He has particular specialism in advising on claims for extensions of time, delay and disruption and loss and expense.

Nick's experience includes representing clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including conciliation, mediation, adjudication, arbitration (domestic and international), and litigation (TCC, Companies and Bankruptcy Court). Since joining Olswang in 2006 Nick has acted for clients including AXA, Delancey, Hutchison Whampoa, Legal & General, The Mall Partnership, RO Developments, Shearer Property Group, UBS and the University of Surrey.
Nick is a contributor to the industry press and is a member of the Society of Construction Law. Nick has recently been invited to assist the CIOB drafting a new standard form of building contract which is intended for use internationally. He is also an editor of Pickavance's Delay and Disruption in Construction Contracts (4th ed., Sweet & Maxwell). The 2012 edition of Legal 500 comments that "‘No-nonsense’ practice head Nick Lane is ‘intellectually and analytically strong’, and ‘excellent’ for mediation strategy." In Chamber & Partners 2012 he receives praise from clients as an ‘excellent strategist,’ who ‘you would rather have on side than against.’ Nick is ranked as a leading individual for purchaser-led construction in that directory.
