Olswang has advised long-standing real estate client F&C REIT on the sale of The St Katharine's Estate in central London to a partnership between the Max Property Group and a South African family trust for approximately £160 million.
The St Katharine's Estate extends to over 22 acres and provides approximately 499,169 sq ft of mixed use accommodation. It comprises the only marina in central London together with offices, public and private housing, shops, restaurants and a pub.
The deal further cements Olswang's relationship with F&C REIT and, being among the most high profile deals in the real estate sector of the year to date, reinforces Olswang's position as one of the foremost legal advisers in that sector.
Commenting on the transaction, Alister Thompson, director at F&C REIT said: 'Olswang has long been a trusted advisor and was a natural partner to engage for this transaction. The nature of the St Katharine's Estate development meant it required a range of capabilities to tackle the broad legal challenges presented by the sale. Olswang's sector-based approached ensured they delivered the level of expertise required and we are delighted with the smooth and efficient manner in which the deal was completed.'
The deal was led by Real Estate partner Simon Kanter. Olswang's Real Estate team included Jackie Roodyn, Tristam FitzHugh, Emily Green, Tamsin Bernard, Nat Slater, Adam Baker and Sue Fitzharris with real estate litigation advice provided by Chris Hobson and construction advice provided by Anna Weiss.
