The group specialises in advising clients on strategy, for
example residence and domicile considerations, and transactional
advice, including gains planning, tax relief for interest costs,
territorial limitations on tax charges, and the impact of indirect
taxes, in particular VAT and stamp duty.
Our tax partners have strong relationships with real estate
clients and, as a result, understand the commercial requirements
and constraints within which tax advice needs to be provided.
Members of our team are also appointed to the Law Society income
tax and corporation tax sub-committees and the Law Society REITs
working party, as well as the Stamp Taxes Practitioner Group.

Kaupthing - Middlesex Hospital
We advised Kaupthing Bank on its agreement with Aviva to develop
the former Middlesex Hospital site in London's West End. We
continue to advise in the context of the redevelopment joint
venture.
DV3 RS Limited Partnership
We advised the taxpayer in its successful appeal against SDLT
assessments raised in the context of partnership transfer
arrangements. The case was the first decision of the Tribunal
on how the SDLT rules operate.
Heron
We advised on Heron Residences, in connection with the joint
venture between Heron International, AREA Property Partners and
Gerald Ronson interests.
Warnford
We acted on the corporate sale of Wardrobe Court, London, EC4 to
the British Land group. This was one of a series of disposals
in the context of the "Warnford Group".
Olympic Village
We advised on the structuring of a joint venture between
DV4 Limited and Qatari Diar and its subsequent successful
acquisition of the Olympic Village for £557 million.
