Part of the Social Media and Employment series, this video features Catherine Taylor, Partner in Olswang's Employment Group, discussing the ownership of Social Media connections.
Excerpt: "Who owns connections on LinkedIn [or followers on Twitter]? That's a question most employers really focus on. The legal answer to that question is very unclear at the moment. However, how you can clarify the answer or reinforce your position is to state in a policy that an employer owns all connections or followers on Twitter. It may not be legally enforceable but it will put you in a better position. Equally, on termination, you should have express provisions as to what happens to those connections when an employee leaves."
